Baidu Video Site Qiyi Goes Live

Tencent Tech, 4/22/10

Qiyi, the independent video subsidiary of Chinese internet company Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU), has gone live.

Qiyi CEO Gong Yu said that the company acquires content rights through three methods: first, by directly signing agreements with film and TV production companies for the rights; second, by signing agreements with television stations to purchase the rights from them - primarily for televised arts and entertainment programming, as well as for a small number of television dramas; third, through procurements from rights brokers such as Shanda Interactive (Nasdaq: SNDA) subsidiary Sunshine Media and online video platform Joy.cn.

Gong Yu said that copyright holders will provide Qiyi with video content in exchange for cash or non-cash payments.
