MIIT: Q1 2010 China IT Product Trade Up 43% YoY

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has announced IT product import/export statistics for the first quarter of 2010, recording USD 205.7 bln in total import/export value, up 42.7% YoY and accounting for 33.3% of total national overseas trade. Total exports reached USD 119 bln, up 36.5% YoY compared to 2.7% YoY growth in 2009 and accounting for 37.6% of total national exports. Total IT product import value reached USD 86.67 bln, up 52.3% YoY compared to 1.9% YoY growth in 2009 and accounting for 28.7% of total national import value.
In Q1 2010, electronic component exports reached USD 15.6 bln, up 54.1% YoY; exports of electronic devices reached USD 13.5 bln, up 77.9% YoY; exports of electronic materials reached USD 1.14 bln, up 45.4% YoY. Exports for all three industries posted higher growth than the overall industry average. Exports of computer products reached USD 45.5 bln, up 38% YoY; exports of home electronics reached USD 18.1 bln, up 21.3% YoY; exports of telecommunications equipment reached USD 18.9 bln, up 17% YoY. Within these three industries, exports of notebooks reached USD 19.6 bln, up 53.6% YoY; exports of handsets reached USD 8.7 bln, up 15.7% YoY; and exports of LCD television display panels and modules reached USD 5.7 bln, up 85.5% YoY.
Imports of computers, electronic components and electronic devices grew 60% YoY, 63.3% YoY and 56.2% YoY respectively.
Export growth recovered in the key eastern provinces and municipalities of Jiangsu, Shanghai, Shandong and Zhejiang in the first quarter of 2010, up 56.1%, 39.9%, 68.7% and 46.2% YoY respectively, all above the national average. Exports also recovered in some central and western regions, with Chongqing, Hubei and Hunan reporting year-on-year growth of 150.4%, 110% and 108% respectively.
