Rumor: Free Entry-Level TD Handset to Hit Stores Soon

The heavily customized Coolpad F61 handset, developed through China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) TD-SCDMA Terminal R&D Incentive Fund, will reportedly go on sale in Shanghai within the near future, with a retail price of RMB 799. A number of provincial-level China Mobile subsidiaries have reportedly developed "RMB 0 handset" promotional policies, offering subscribers free F61 handsets and RMB 790 worth of talk time, to be paid out over a ten-month period, in exchange for a purchase of RMB 799 worth of talk time up front.
