Taobao's 3C Mall Adjusts Seller Listings Algorithm

DoNews, 5/14/10

A spokesperson for the B2C 3C "Appliance City" on Chinese e-commerce site Taobao says that the site has adjusted its seller listing algorithm for product display pages. Taobao's systems will order seller listings based on buyer feedback, with only the three top-rated sellers being displayed on product pages. Buyers can also choose to view sellers by region in order to find local sellers. Sellers are displayed in an order automatically determined by the backend system, affected by factors including response time on Taobao's AliTalk chat service, shipment speed, price, and any record of inconclusive or fraudulent transactions.

In 2009, Taobao sold RMB 45 bln worth of 3C products, of which personal electronics accounted for RMB 35 bln and home appliances for RMB 8 bln.
