Rumor: Kingsoft Cuts Field Marketing Staff

BiaNews, 7/28/10

An industry source has reported that game developer Kingsoft (3888.HK) is once again laying off employees, with all of its field marketing staff being laid off last Saturday, a number of official employees and provincial-level managers being dismissed this Monday, and a large portion of the company's mid-level management being reassigned.

The source said Kingsoft had not had many field marketing staff - nearly 200 in all - having enacted a policy at the start of the year that departing employees would not be replaced. According to the source, the new round of layoffs is the result of infighting at the top levels of the company, rather than an attempt to streamline the company's operations team.

Kingsoft declined interview requests at ChinaJoy, citing what it referred to as "a sensitive period" for the company.
