KongZhong: Layoffs Not as Big as Rumored

Tencent Tech, 9/10/10

Chinese mobile internet and online gaming company KongZhong (Nasdaq: KONG) has reportedly laid off dozens of employees in an overhaul of its information content services, an industry source recently told Tencent Tech, as part of overall layoffs covering an estimated 20% of the workforce. According to a source within the company, the entire team behind the company's WAP portal Kong.net has been let go as well as one-third of the wireless division.

KongZhong confirmed that it has begun a round of layoffs but encompassing no more than 5% of its total workforce. KongZhong said it is continuing to develop its four core businesses - mobile gaming, WVAS, Kong.net and online gaming - as it has in the past.
