MediaTek, Skyworth Sign 3D TV Chip Contract

Ryan Chen, general manager of the digital TV business unit at Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company MediaTek, revealed that the company has released a 3D TV chipset, and has signed a cooperative agreement with consumer electronics manufacturer Skyworth Digital (0751.HK). Chen emphasized that the company is in the process of initiating cooperation with a number of mainland Chinese TV companies, and that details would be forthcoming.

According to Chen, the prices on MediaTek's smart TV chips will be far below those of Intel. MediaTek and Skyworth also announced that the two companies have established a lab for researching smart 3D engines and other 3D technologies.

Editor's Note: Smart 3D engines have superior 3D imaging technology that allows faster 3D operation, decoding and image processing speeds.
