Beijing Unicom: Contactless Mobile Payment Limited to 2G Users

CCTIME, 1/04/11

Beijing Unicom launched its contactless mobile payment service at its 16 flagship service halls on December 31. During the debut promotional period, Beijing Unicom's "Mobile Smart Card" mobile wallet will be available only to 2G users. Users who prepay RMB 200 can receive a "Mobile Smart Card" package worth RMB 110 that includes a SIMPass SIM card and RMB 10 in public transportation credit.

The "Mobile Smart Card" service consists of two components: a "mobile wallet" that records no personal information, cannot be retrieved if lost, and functions identically to a public transportation contactless payment card; and another account registered in the user's name where funds are protected and can be used to recharge the mobile wallet.
