Tencent Unveils Group Buy Site API

Sohu IT, 1/27/11

Shenzhen-based internet company Tencent (0700.HK) announced today that it will open APIs for its "QQ Tuan" (tuan.qq.com) group buying site. The move comes following the release of open APIs for Tencent's SNS Qzone, third-party payment platform Tenpay, and its microblogging platform. A spokesperson for QQ Tuan said that the new QQ Tuan would integrate the company's instant messaging, SNS, and online payment services.

QQ Tuan has reportedly been in beta testing for some time, and has brought on a string of more than ten partners, including group buying sites FTuan.com and CoBuy.net, online restaurant search and booking website GuduMami.cn, consumer reward points firm China-Rewards.com, online real estate company FangQQ.com, Shenzhen regional QQ VIP and group buy agent NorthRainbow.com, and real estate and automobile website operator CityMedia.com.cn. Tencent will reportedly increase the openness of the QQ Tuan platform after the Chinese New Year holiday, providing API access to qualifying group-buy sites.
