SMG Obtains 3G Mobile Phone TV License from SARFT

CRI, 1/30/11

Shanghai Media Group (SMG) recently announced that it has obtained a domestic 3G mobile phone TV license from China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT). The 3G business will be operated by SMG's subsidiary Shanghai BesTV.

The license allows SMG to operate an integrated broadcast and control platform named "E-Shitong" as well as a content service platform called "Oriental Mobile TV" ("Dongfang Shouji Dianshi"). According to SARFT regulations, content is delivered via dedicated lines to the integrated broadcast and control platform, which in turn delivers content to the 3G network via a dedicated IP network.
