Responding to questions about patent issues related to the China Unicom-developed (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) "Wo Phone" smartphone OS announced yesterday, Unicom technology GM Zhang Zhijiang said that the companies that participated in R&D for the operating system, led by China Unicom, collectively share the patent rights.
The Bangkok Post recently reported that China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK), Japanese mobile communications operator NTT DoCoMo, and South Korean telecom operator SK Telecom have been in discussions with the Thai Government to invest in Thailand's largest privately-owned telecom operator AIS, which owes the Thai government billions of USD.
Gao Songtao, deputy director of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's (MIIT) Center for Software and Integrated Circuit Promotion (CSIP), recently revealed that MIIT's China Electronic Standardization Institute (CESI) is drafting national standards for cloud computing technology, and is expected to release a preliminary draft this year.
