Chinese Online Video Sites to Share Licensed Content

DoNews, 3/17/11

Several Chinese online video service providers including LeTV (300104.SZ), Tencent (0700.HK), PPLive (PPTV), Xunlei, Baofeng, and Joy.cn have jointly established an "Online Cinema Licensing Alliance."

If any alliance member obtains the online broadcasting rights to a film or TV series, they will permit other alliance members to release said content on their premium content platforms. All members will release the content at the same time, with the same picture quality and at the same price.

LeTV's vice president Gao Fei said that LeTV had already obtained the exclusive online license to Chinese TV drama "Jiang Ai Jinxing Daodi" ("Eternal Moment"), which will serve as the first trial content for the alliance's new shared content policy.
