GAPP to Levy IPR Infringement Fines Against Baidu

Beijing Youth Daily, 5/14/11

Wang Zhicheng, deputy chief of the Department of Copyright Administration of China's General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP), has announced that GAPP has identified several acts of IPR infringement by Chinese internet company Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) and is considering administrative penalties. Wang's comments were in response to the recent guilty verdict in Shanda Interactive (Nasdaq: SNDA) online literature subsidiary Cloudary's copyright infringement lawsuit against Baidu. However, Wang said, the maximum administrative penalty fine is RMB 100,000.
