Sina Begins Closed Beta of Light Blogging Product

Jfdaily, 5/30/11

Chinese internet company Sina (Nasdaq: SINA) recently began closed beta testing of its new "Qing" light blogging platform. On the evening of May 26, internet users discovered that the sub-domain for the new service (qing.sina.com.cn) had been activated. Users can currently apply via e-mail for an invitation code to register on the platform. According to screenshots posted online by users who have already gained access to Qing, the main page has sections for blog articles, images, and video. While publishing a post, users can simultaneously upload a maximum of 20 images at a time. Users can also tether their Sina Weibo microblogging accounts to their Qing account for simultaneous cross-posting to both platforms. Further, subscribers to one's Sina Weibo account can be imported to Qing. Currently, Qing lacks internal search functionality.
