Taobao Mall Pharmacy "Only Provides Information"

China Business News, 6/22/11

Yan Qiao, a spokesperson for Hangzhou-based B2C e-commerce platform Taobao Mall, has responded to rumors that Taobao is not legally licensed to sell pharmaceuticals online, emphasizing that Taobao Mall merely displays pharmaceutical information and offers technical support to authorized pharmaceutical e-commerce companies. He added that as Taobao Mall plays no role at any point in transactions, there is no question of illegal activity.

Yan said that Taobao Mall receives a share of revenues from each order made through its pharmacy channel, but its pharmaceutical e-commerce partners are responsible for logistics and delivery.
