Youku, China Unicom Launch Mobile Video UGC Platform

Victor Koo, CEO of Chinese online video site Youku (NYSE: YOKU), said on his Tencent microblog today that Youku and China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) would partner on the operator's new mobile UGC video platform, WoShare. As the exclusive content partner and operator for the new platform, Youku will allow users to upload, view, and share videos from their mobile devices.

In March of this year, Youku partnered with China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) on the UGC channel of the operator's E-Surfing Video service, cooperating again with the operator the next month on PC and mobile services for its animation site.

Youku has also partnered with China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) on its own mobile animation service, currently in commercial trials in six provinces.
