China Unicom to Launch 3G Campus Brand

Sina Tech, 8/01/11

China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) will launch a new campus-oriented 3G brand, "Wo Pai" ("Wo Clique"), this month. Priced at RMB 36 per month, Wo Pai includes 60 minutes of talk time, 300 minutes of domestic friends-and-family calling, 100 SMS messages, 60 Mb of 3G data, and 500 Mb of focused data bandwidth, which may be used only for 3G applications including literature, music, microblogging, and social networking. The plan offers free incoming calls nationwide, with no roaming fees.

An industry source said that China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) "M-Zone" plan and Unicom's "Wo Pai" were both designed by Li Gang, the former GM of Guangdong Mobile and current China Unicom senior VP.

"Wo Pai" will set a new low for Unicom package prices.
