Rumor: Dangdang Plans 3C Price War Against 360Buy

DoNews, 9/21/11

According to a Beijing-based notebook PC vendor, Chinese B2C e-commerce site Dangdang (NYSE: DANG) may soon draft consumer electronics suppliers into a price war against rival 360Buy. Suppliers are already being pressured by Dangdang to lower prices, particularly on certain popular 3C items.

Dangdang is forming a coalition of suppliers requiring 3-5% discounts on all products, such as a RMB 200 or more discount on notebooks in the RMB 4,000-5000 price range.

Another industry source claims that, according to materials from Dangdang discussions with suppliers, Dangdang is seeking discounts on the top 50 best-selling products in every 3C category on 360Buy in what it has dubbed "Operation Decapitation."
