Rumor: China Telecom Begins 100G Broadband Trials

CCID, 10/10/11

An industry source recently revealed that China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) has begun 100 Gbps broadband network trials, expected to continue through to the end of 2011. China Telecom reportedly convened a meeting to discuss details of the service, with attendees including Chinese telecom equipment manufacturers Huawei, Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell (ASB), Fiberhome Telecommunication Technologies (600498.SH), ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) and Nokia Siemens Networks. Incompatibility between the different manufacturers' equipment, the source said, has become an obstacle to conducting proper commercial tests of the 100 Gbps network.
