Tianyu Denies Rumors of Major Layoffs

Beijing Times, 10/17/11

Rong Xiuli, chairwoman of Beijing-based handset maker Tianyu Communication Equipment (K-Touch), has denied rumors of massive layoffs at the company. Rong issued a statement announcing that Tianyu has a total of 1,637 employees, and is currently invested in heavy recruitment of training staff and store managers, among other positions.

Recent industry rumors claimed that poor sales of close Tianyu partner Alibaba Group's Aliyun smartphones have forced Tianyu to reduce its workforce to just over 400 remaining employees, to be followed by Tianyu's acquisition by Alibaba Group.
