Chinese Communist Party Appoints New CCTV Head

The Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) has appointed Hu Zhanfan as head of China Central Television (CCTV), replacing Jiao Li who will be assigned a new post.

Born in Heilongjiang in 1953, Hu most recently served as editor-in-chief of the Guangming Daily newspaper, prior to which he worked as deputy director and party committee member of China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT).

Jiao Li, born in Hebei in 1955, has served as Party secretary, station head and senior editor at CCTV since May 2009, following time as a deputy director within the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the CPC.
