Shanda Closes Online Karaoke Platform

Tencent Tech, 12/13/11

Shanda Interactive's (Nasdaq: SNDA) online karaoke platform, Super Star (Ju Xing), recently announced that it will cease operation, saying that it can no longer compete with games operating in the same market.

On December 5, Super Star removed its pages for both its web-based store and new user registration. On December 20, it will cease allowing users to purchase additional virtual currency and shut down its in-game virtual items mall, to be followed by the closure of its forums on December 30. On February 6, 2012, servers for all games will be shut down and telephone and e-mail customer service will no longer be available after February 15.
