Rumor: China Mobile to Add 3 More TD-LTE Trial Cities

C114, 1/10/12

According to an anonymous industry source, three new cities - Tianjin, Qingdao, and Wuhan - could be added to China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) TD-LTE trials this year, in addition to the "6+1" cities already in trials. Beijing will also take part in this year's TD-LTE trials, the source said.

In December 2010, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) approved an overall plan for TD-LTE trials under which China Mobile is responsible for trial networks in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Xiamen, and a demonstration network in Beijing (i.e. "6+1").
