China's 3G Subscriber Base Reaches 128 Mln

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has revealed that at the end of 2011, China had over 128 mln 3G subscribers. Included in this figure are 51.21 mln TD-SCDMA subscribers, or approximately 40% of total 3G subscribers, 40.02 mln WCDMA subscribers, and 37.19 mln CDMA2000 EV-DO subscribers. In addition, the ministry revealed that China currently has a total of 814,000 3G base stations, of which 220,000 are China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) TD-SCDMA base stations, 269,500 are China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) CDMA2000 EV-DO base stations, and 324,500 are China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) WCDMA base stations. Finally, total 3G investment has reached RMB 455.6 bln.
