Alipay Mobile App Downloads Reach 30 Mln

DoNews, 2/29/12

Chinese third-party payment processor Alipay released a number of wireless payment figures today indicating that Alipay clients had been downloaded more than 30 mln times. Android users accounted for 53% of mobile payment transactions using the app, followed by iOS (27%), Symbian (17%), Windows Phone (1.7%), Java (1.1%), and Blackberry (0.1%).

The number of daily Alipay mobile client users increased sixfold over the same period last year, the company said, and is increasing by 60,000 new user activations per day. While the majority of mobile client users are male, female users are more active in all areas.

Alipay also announced that it would update its mobile clients on all major platforms in the near future. The new clients will add the ability to check order and shipping status, and will add bill payment coverage (including utility, phone, and broadband bills) for the same number of cities as the Alipay website.
