Chinese Smart TV Tech Association Introduces New OS Standard

Sina, 4/11/12

The China Smart Multimedia Terminal Technology Association (STA) in Shenzhen introduced a new smart TV operating system standard, STV OS 1.0. The standard was set by Chinese consumer electronics manufacturers TCL Corporation (000100.SZ), Changhong (600839.SH), and Hisense (600060.SH), Taiwanese chipmaker MStar Semiconductor, Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company MediaTek (MTK), and Huawei subsidiary and semiconductor manufacturer HiSilicon Technologies. The STA standard will gradually be applied to manufacturers' products, as STA continues to set new smart TV operating system standards.

The STV OS is a complete smart terminal operating system based on open software standards, which is compatible with Android and other system-on-chip solutions. The operating system has complete ATV and DTV functionality, supports multiple smart TV interaction methods, such as remote controls, voice, and gesture commands. It also supports multiple methods of internet connection, such as PPPOE, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi.
