Rumor: China Unicom to Lower Entry-level 3G Package Fee

Netease Tech, 5/08/12

An internal source from China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) recently revealed that the company is planning to lower its entry-level 3G monthly service fee to RMB 20, which might be officially changed by next week.

When China Unicom first launched commercial trials of its 3G network, its lowest priced package was RMB 186 per month. Upon official commercial launch of the network, Unicom added a RMB 96 per month entry-level package, and subsequently has continued to introduce progressively cheaper monthly 3G packages of RMB 66 and later RMB 36.
