China Issues Industry Standards for Media Ads

International Business Daily, 5/15/12

China's Ministry of Commerce recently announced the approval of a new set of industry standards for advertising in the online, mobile, and TV shopping space. A draft of the standards will be completed within the year, and issued as early as next month. Wang Wenxue, chairman of the China Direct Media Marketing Association, explained the reasoning behind the standard, saying there is currently no sufficient minimum set of requirements for entering into the media ads market, and that the consequences for misconduct are currently too low. The new standards, when in place, will serve as a reference for all relevant regulatory bodies.
