Rumor: Sina Weibo to Offer Premium Memberships

TechWeb, 6/07/12

Chinese internet company Sina (Nasdaq: SINA) plans to launch "Weibo Members" premium memberships on its Weibo microblogging platform, offering premium members customizable homepages, priority upgrades, custom medals, and exclusive user ranking. According to a source within Sina Weibo, the service is currently in internal testing, and pricing and other details are still under discussion. The source said a launch date has not been set.

Sina Weibo previously released virtual currency and "Weihao" premium user accounts. Last month, Weibo released a new ranking system aimed at increasing user activity.
