MIIT, SARFT Release Updated AVS Standard

CCTime, 8/31/12

The IT Industry Department of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television's (SARFT) Department of Science and Technology recently jointly released a new version of China's self-developed Audio Video Coding Standard (AVS), AVS+. The two agencies said that the next step would be to accelerate industrialization and large-scale application of the new standard.

The updated standard, implementation of which went into effect on July 10, 2012, was developed by the joint AVS Workgroup and is optimized for HD and 3D TV broadcast TV services.

MIIT's IT Industry Department and SARFT's Department of Science and Technology established the joint workgroup in March 2012 to promote industry adoption of the indigenous standard for HDTV and 3D TV.
