TMall Issues Stricter New Rules for Inviting Bids in 2013

Ebrun, 10/18/12

Alibaba Group's B2C e-commerce site TMall has reportedly recently issued a notice on 2013 Business Solicitation Standards, stating that for certain product categories (including athletic shoes and major home appliances), TMall will only accept new merchants that own registered brands and trademarks. The site will be even stricter for standardized industries such as cosmetics and milk powder, instituting three new requirements for 2013. New merchants must have standard taxpayer credentials, and will be required to have operated in different markets for six months to one year prior to application. If the new merchant is operating a franchise, they will be required to provide a chain of authorization to operate with no more than three 'links' in it.

The new standards will be applicable only to new TMall merchants, rather than to existing merchants, who will be assessed according to 2012 standards when extending their agreements for 2013.

TMall will open applications for new 2013 merchants through its website at 10 AM on October 29. Applicants will be expected to meet the new 2013 requirements when signing contracts through the end of 2013.
