Rumor: Baidu Invests in ROM-flashing Software 'Zhuo Dashi'

Sohu IT, 11/15/12

Sohu IT reported today on rumors that Chinese internet company Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) has made a strategic investment of as much as RMB 50 mln in the developer of "Zhuo Dashi" (unofficial translation: "Master Droid"), a ROM-flashing PC application for mobile handsets. Legend Capital took part in first-round financing for Zhuo Dashi, but Baidu is reportedly the sole strategic investor in the current round. Baidu reportedly first contacted the developers of Zhuo Dashi in March.

Zhuo Dashi is a PC application used to flash the firmware of Android mobile phones. CEO Su Guangsheng and CTO Xiao Wenfeng began developing the application in September 2011, and first released the product in December 2011. Xiao revealed in August 2012 that Zhuo Dashi had more than 4 mln users.
