Baidu Tests Knowledge Graph-like Search Feature

Tencent Tech, 11/19/12

Chinese internet company Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) recently launched small scale beta testing on its new "Entity Search" (shiti sousuo) based search feature, similar to Google's Knowledge Graph, which will be able to provide direct search results based on keywords entered into Baidu's search box.

For example, when using Baidu to search for "dogs that don't shed," the search engine will, instead of providing website links, provide pictures and information about miniature schnauzers and other common dog breeds that don't shed. When searching "flowering trees" on Baidu, pictures and introductions, linked to Baidu's online encyclopedia Baidupedia, of various flowering trees will appear within the natural search results on the left side of the page. Baidu's Knowledge Graph-like searches are still limited to a small number of key words. For example, searching for "flying fish" on Baidu will only yield website links.
