Zoom Announces Q3 2012 Profit Down 69% YoY

Beijing-based telecom equipment and terminal manufacturer Zoom Technologies (Nasdaq: ZOOM) has announced its financial results for the three months ended September 30, 2012. Q3 2012 revenue increased 130.9% YoY to USD 117.2 mln from USD 50.7 mln a year before.

Net income was USD 0.8 mln, down 69.2% YoY from net income of USD 2.6 mln in Q3 2011. The lower net income was attributed to decreasing gross margins industry wide.

In Q3 2012 the company sold 4,589,000 handsets, 939,000 of which were Leimone brand phones; 325,000 of Leimone phones were 3G handsets. In Q3 2011 Zoom sold 379,000 handsets, 152,000 of which were Leimone brand phones; 121,000 units of Leimone phones were 3G handsets.

Sales of self-branded products in Q3 2012 represented USD 45.6 mln or 38.9% of revenues, as compared to USD 13.0 mln or 25.6% of revenues a year ago.
