TMall, Taobao Jan-Nov Transaction Volume Hits RMB 1 Trln

Sina Tech, 12/03/12

Chinese e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba Group has announced that as of 9:50 PM on November 30, 2012, combined total transaction volume of its online shopping sites Taobao and TMall for the first 11 months of 2012 had exceeded RMB 1 trln.

Alibaba revealed that third-tier and fourth-tier cities accounted for more than 60% of growth, while traditional markets in first- and second-tier cities accounted for less than 40% of growth. Growth in third- and fourth-tier cities was mainly attributed to China's focus on expanding domestic demand by increasing consumer spending power in those areas.
