China Mobile Hong Kong to Launch TDD/FDD LTE Network on Dec 18
iFeng Tech, 12/03/12
Swedish telecom equipment maker Ericsson confirmed today that China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) plans to officially launch its dual-mode TDD/FDD LTE network service in Hong Kong on December 18. Initial operations will focus on providing high-speed mobile data services, while user phone calls, text messages and other services will still rely on existing 2G and 3G networks. According to the plan, by the end of this year, China Mobile Hong Kong's LTE outdoor and indoor network coverage will reach 100% and 80% of current GSM network coverage levels, respectively.
Currently, available LTE terminal products in Hong Kong include handsets, internet cards, and MiFi wireless terminals. Samsung, HTC, and LG produce the majority of LTE-compatible handsets available, while the majority of compatible internet cards and MiFi products available are produced by Huawei and ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ). 4G mobile terminals available in Hong Kong currently support only FDD-LTE networks, while a large number of Internet cards and MiFi terminals also support TD-LTE.
