Taobao Removes 82 Mln IPR-infringing Listings from Jan-Nov

Hangzhou-based C2C & B2C e-commerce site Taobao recently released figures for its anti-counterfeiting efforts from January-November 2012. Over the first 11 months of 2012, the site removed 82 mln listings for items infringing upon intellectual property rights, and punished more than 790,000 Taobao members for infringement. Fines for selling counterfeit items will become cumulative starting in 2013, Taobao said.
Taobao has a dedicated team of nearly 2,000 employees engaged in investigation, reporting, and training as part of the company's efforts to develop a unified IPR protection and anti-counterfeit management system. As of November 2012, more than 23,000 brand owners and rights holders had registered on Taobao's IPR complaints platform to cooperate with the company's IPR protection efforts. Taobao has developed wide-ranging partnerships with nearly 600 of these brands.
