Skyworth, Voole, SMC Partner on Internet TV

Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer Skyworth Digital Holdings (0751.HK), video-on-demand website Voole, and Southern Media Corporation (SMC) have reached an agreement to jointly operate the "Hollywood Direct" Internet TV service available in Skyworth's smart cloud TV sets.

Hollywood Direct is a new Internet TV service supported by Coocaa Network Technology, a JV established between Skyworth and USB solutions developer and supplier Netac Technology (300042.SZ). Voole will provide licensed video and television content from five major Hollywood film and television studios for Hollywood Direct. SMC will provide the Internet TV license required to operate the service.

According to Skyworth GM of marketing Liu Yaoping, Skyworth will soon begin charging for its VOD content. Skyworth tentatively plans to charge RMB 360 for a year-long Internet TV subscription through a recharge-card style payment system. The company believes its Internet TV revenues will reach approximately RMB 80 mln in the coming year.
