China Mobile, Dolby Partner on Mobile Music

Netease Tech, 12/07/12

China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) wireless music base signed a strategic partnership agreement with Dolby Labs today under which the operator's wireless music base will begin offering its "Migu" branded music player and high-fidelity music services incorporating Dolby Pulse technology in January 2013, as well as digital music and entertainment services using low bit-rate technology. Tests have shown that high-fidelity music compressed using the Dolby technology requires 70% less bandwidth than an MP3 of the same quality.

Lai Hang, deputy GM of China Mobile's wireless music base, said that since the base was first established in March 2006, its service revenues have increased to account for more than 83% of the Chinese wireless music market, with an average of 100 mln sales per month of licensed songs.

Editor's Note: "Migu" is China Mobile's mobile music service brand.
