Renren Game Apps Removed from iTunes Store

Sootoo, 12/17/12

The iOS version of the Renren game apps developed Beijing-based social networking site operator Renren (NYSE: RENN) has been removed from Apple's China App Store. Search inquiries for the apps currently yield zero results. Renren is currently in talks with Apple to have its game app reinstated into the store.

According to a knowledgeable source, the apps has been removed because of manipulation of download rankings for Renren's iOS client. The Renren game iOS apps ranked number 5 in China's iTunes App Store in November, drawing suspicion from Apple.

On December 5, online travel service provider Ctrip (Nasdaq: CTRP), online video site operator Youku Tudou (NYSE: YOKU), and a number of other popular apps were removed from the China iTunes App Store. Ctrip later stated that the app was removed due to contract renewal negotiations with Apple.
