Lenovo-Compal Notebook JV Begins Production

Chinese laptop, PC, and handset manufacturer Lenovo (0992.HK) and Taiwanese consumer electronics manufacturer Compal Electronics' notebook manufacturing joint venture, Lianbao (Hefei) Electronics Science & Technology, based in Hefei Economic & Technological Development Area, has begun production with an annual production capacity reaching tens of millions of units.
The production base covers 457 mu (0.3 square kilometers) with over 170,000 square meters of factory floor space and over 100,000 square meters of warehousing space, and will produce Lenovo-brand desktop and all-in-one PCs in addition to notebooks. The facility already has 18 R&D labs, four technology and SMT production lines, and is currently producing 500,000 notebooks per month, with monthly output expected to reach 1 mln units by 2013.
In addition to the Lenovo-Compal base, 12 related manufacturers have also established operations centers in Hefei, and 128 suppliers have shipped raw materials to the base's warehousing hub.
