BOE Hefei and Ordos Plants to Begin Production by Year-End

Sina Tech, 4/11/13

In an April 10 interview, Zhang Yu, VP of Chinese TFT-LCD manufacturer BOE (000725.SZ; 200725.SZ), said that the company is currently installing and testing equipment for its new 8.5G line in Hefei, which is slated to begin production in Q4 2013. Construction will begin in Q3 2013 on another 8.5G production line in Chongqing, which is expected to go into production in 2015. BOE's 5.5G AMOLED production line in Ordos, which will chiefly manufacture 5" and 7" panels, will go into operation at the end of 2013. Zhang noted that domestically produced Chinese LCD panels will account for 10% to 12% of the global market in 2013, 6% to 8% of that belonging to BOE. Zhang predicted that the market share of domestically produced Chinese LCD panels will increase to 15% to 20% in the future, and added that BOE's share of the global market will grow to 10% to 12% in 2014.

BOE had 2012 operating revenues of RMB 25.67 bln, up 102.18% YoY, and net profits of RMB 250 mln — a 55.43% decline YoY, though actually a considerable YoY improvement when 2011 revenue figures are adjusted to exclude investment income that year. BOE expects RMB 200 to 250 mln in profits for Q1 2013, as compared to losses of RMB 490 mln for Q1 2012.

Zhang Yu said that BOE will begin producing new large-format panels ranging from 55" to 110" this year, and has begun working to produce the currently popular UHD (ultra high-definition) panels.
