Sharp, CEC Form LCD Panel JV

Sina Tech, 6/27/13

Sharp and China Electronics Corporation (CEC) have announced the establishment of a new IGZO LCD TV joint venture. The new company, which has registered capital of USD 2.9 bln, will be 92% owned by CEC and 8% owned by Sharp. Sharp will license its IGZO LCD technology to the JV as a part of the agreement, with the goal of beginning production on LCD panels for use in computers, laptops, and televisions in 2015.

A Sharp spokesperson declined to comment on the licensing fee structure for its IGZO technology, but did note that proceeds from the licensing agreement would go toward purchasing the company's 8% stake in the new JV.
