Qunar App Supports WeChat Pay for Flight Booking

TechWeb, 1/13/14

Chinese Internet firm Baidu's (Nasdaq: BIDU) online travel services subsidiary Qunar (Nasdaq: QUNR) has announced that the company's mobile app has added in-app payment support for Tencent's (0700.HK) WeChat Pay ("Weixin Zhifu") third-party payment platform. WeChat Pay is the payment platform of Tencent's WeChat (Weixin) mobile messaging application.

Qunar mobile travel app users can now make payments for airline tickets as long as they have installed WeChat and set up WeChat Pay. Customers will also be eligible for rebates worth between RMB 5 and RMB 10 redeemable toward flight bookings, hotels, or for cash redemption when they opt to pay through WeChat Pay. Qunar plans to expand WeChat Pay payment functionality to hotels and other services.
