A source close to both parties has revealed that Charles Zhang, chairman and CEO of Chinese internet firm Sohu (Nasdaq: SOHU), and Pony Ma (Ma Huateng), CEO of Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent (0700.HK), have conducted extensive closed-door meetings regarding a potential online video partnership between the companies.
The China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) recently announced conditional approval of gaming company-related acquisition plans from four companies, including mobile game developer Ourpalm (300315.SZ), Fuzhou-based umbrella manufacturer Susino (002174.SZ), Chinese telecom equipment manufacturer Datang Telecom (600198.SH), and Guangdong-based animation company Alpha Animation and Culture (002292.SZ).
