Rumor: Baidu Eyes Ctrip Acquisition

According to an industry insider, Chinese internet company Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) has been involved in recent talks with online travel site Ctrip (Nasdaq: CTRP) to acquire the company. Baidu will reportedly look to purchase Ctrip and merge the company with its own online travel subsidiary Qunar (Nasdaq: QUNR).

According to the source, e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba Group has previously been in discussions to partner with Ctrip on back-end user data. Upon hearing of a possible Alibaba partnership, Baidu has stepped in to pursue a merger between Ctrip and Qunar.
