Tencent Ads VoIP Service to 'WeCall' Address Book Manager

iFeng Finance, 11/12/14

Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent (0700.HK) has added voice over internet protocol (VoIP) calling service to the latest version of the company's mobile address book app WeCall ("Weixin Dianhuaben"). The new service allows users to make free calls when connected to the internet, adding to the app's existing address book contact backup, WeChat contact profile picture import (WeChat is Tencent's self-developed mobile messaging app), group SMS messaging, and contact group management features.

Users can make free VoIP calls to other WeCall users, and both users are required to have installed the app in order to activate the service. If not connected to Wi-Fi, users will accrue mobile data charges for calls.
