Amazon China Opens Store on Tmall

Sina Tech, 3/05/15

US e-commerce giant Amazon launched a flagship store on Alibaba Group's (NYSE: BABA) B2C e-commerce site Tmall. The Tmall store is Amazon China's direct import business, which primarily covers food, women's shoes, toys, maternity goods and kitchenware. Products are imported by Amazon China and are available both through Tmall and Amazon China's website, z.cn.

According to someone close to the project, the deal was pushed by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and follows almost two years of talks with Alibaba.

Tmall currently hosts flagship stores for 87 independent B2C e-commerce platforms, including Chinese B2C e-commerce site Dangdang (NYSE: DANG) and Chinese home appliance and consumer electronics retailer Gome (0493.HK).
