Qunar, Baofeng Cooperate on VR Travel Products
ChinaNews, 8/31/16
Chinese online travel services firm Qunar (Nasdaq: QUNR), the main shareholders of which are Internet firms Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) and Ctrip (Nasdaq: CTRP), and Internet video company Baofeng Group (300431.SZ) recently announced that they will jointly release several new virtual reality (VR) travel products for popular Chinese domestic tourism destinations. The VR travel will draw on Qunar's position in the travel industry and Baofeng Group's VR technology to offer users a variety of online and offline VR travel services, including online VR tourist attraction visits, interactive group tours, and offline interactive VR experience centers. The products are expected to launch before the end of 2016.
Users can access the VR group travel products in several ways. First, when browsing travel itineraries on the Qunar website, users can watch online VR video content related to attractions and hotels. After placing an order, users will receive a special pair of VR glasses that they can use to scan online QR codes to access additional virtual tourist attraction content before traveling. Once users have traveled to their destination, they can play interactive games at VR experience centers located at tourist sites. After their trip, users can revisit the Qunar website to view additional VR content.
