Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent's (0700.HK) WeChat mobile messaging app recently launched a feature allowing users to see trends related to the use of various keywords.
WeChat Zhishu (literally "WeChat Trend"), accessed by searching for WeChat Trend in the WeChat search bar, is currently only available on the Chinese version of the app.
WeChat Trend provides 7-day, 30-day, and 90-day trending charts for keywords based on big data analysis of WeChat search and browsing data, allowing users to easily see how popular different words are over a period of time. Its main applications currently comprise determining trends, gauging public opinion, and carrying out precision marketing.
Tencent officials added that although the feature provides data based on mobile internet usage, it still does not include WeChat social data, making it difficult to obtain three-dimensional, comprehensive user-preference tracking.
